Day-Lee Foods World Gyoza Eating Championship
Say it loud and say it proud: The Day-Lee Foods World Gyoza Eating Championship returns to Major League Eating’s 2017 slate of sanctioned eating events. It is beloved and for good reason: The Day-Lee Food Gyoza is a peerless example of this Japanese delicacy, often served as an appetizer or snack-on-the-go to civilians, and in the hundreds to Major League Eaters.
This year marks the 11th installment of the Championship. Over the years, we have learned much about the Day-Lee Foods Gyoza. We have learned that it is delicious. We have learned, in competitive eating terms, not so much a technique food but a capacity foodโinsert, ingest, repeat. We have learned that Major League Eaters can eat them in extraordinary numbers. The world record in the discipline was set in 2014 by Joey Chestnut, when he ate 384 Day-Lee Foods Gyoza in 10 minutes. That record will be on the line at the 2017 Championship. In 2016, Matt Stonie ate 323 Day-Lee Foods Gyoza in 10 minutes to claim the title.
The Day-Lee Foods World Gyoza Eating Championship is the ultimate test of man vs woman vs gyoza vs the many temptations of Los Angeles vs oneself. It is a marquee event on the MLE calendar.
